Craveyard Tablescape and Halloween Recipes with A&W and Canada Dry
The first day of fall is quickly approaching! This year the first day of fall this year lands on Friday, September 22nd. I usually use the first day of fall to signal my time to breakout all the fall-themed décor, but I couldn’t wait this year and did that last week! As quickly as fall comes... so does Halloween! I am SO excited to be sharing a super fun Halloween tablescape with you along with a craveable treat recipe using A&W Root Beer and a spooky drink recipe using Canada Dry Ginger Ale!
You can find some spooky yet beautiful inspiration in my tablescape if you plan to host a Halloween party this year. Everyone is all about the food and beverage at parties so it's fun to dress up the table you are serving them on too! When I was asked to create this tablescape I couldn't wait to get started! I chose purple, lime green, orange, and black and white stripes for my color scheme! All of those colors and the pattern just scream Halloween to me!
When setting up a tablescape I always love to have a variety of different levels. It gives you more space to work and gives a fuller effect to your look! You can achieve this with cake pedestals. Even if you don't put treats on them, use them to heighten other aspects of your set-up! I purchased quite a few of my supplies at Walmart. They always have just what I need and at a great price too!
There are some SUPER fun mini monster cans and 2 liter bottles hitting Walmart stores on September 15th through October 31st! These cute little mini monster cans are perfect for every Halloween party and even have a Snapchat snap code to unlock a special Snapchat filter for 1 hour. It's super easy to use!
All you have to do is hold your phone (with the Snapchat app open) over the ghost icon on the mini monster can and press the ghost icon on your screen (this does not require a video or picture taken) - this process unlocks the Snapchat geofilter and the filter is unlocked for one hour! It is important to post your photo with the geofilter to your Snapchat story within the hour so that your friends can join in on the fun too! Follow me on Snapchat and I'll show you how! My username is @sgharvey.

These cute mini monsters pictured below on the custom cookies I ordered will be the monsters featured on the cans! How fun is that?!
A&W Root Beer Whoopie Pies Recipe
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick of unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tbs milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp white vinegar
3 tsp vanilla extract
2 sticks unsalted butter
3/4 cup and 2 tbs A&W Root Beer
6 tbs unsweetened cocoa
1 bag (32oz) powdered sugar, sifted
4 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, and salt).
In a separate medium bowl prepare wet ingredients (whip together butter, sugar, brown sugar, then add eggs and buttermilk and whip again).
In a small bowl, combine milk, baking soda, and vinegar. Add this mixture to your wet ingredients bowl and slowly mix in your dry ingredients.
Drop round tablespoons of dough onto parchment paper lined baking sheets. It's important to purchase parchment paper and not wax paper.
Pop in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of your cookies start to golden. Do not overcook! Let cook on rack completely!
While your whoopies are baking, prepare your filling!
In medium saucepan over low heat, melt two sticks of butter. Once melted, incorporate the A&W Root Beer and unsweetened cocoa. Prepare yourself for the most amazing smell!
Slowly fold in the sifted powdered sugar a cup or so at a time.
Fold in vanilla. Depending on the consistency you may want to add more powdered sugar.
DIY PIPING BAG:
Once you've found a consistency you like, spoon your frosting into a large gallon size freezer bag, zip it closed with no air, and squish the icing to one corner. Snip a small hole in the corner.
ASSEMBLING WHOOPIE PIES:
Using your piping bag, pipe icing in a circular motion onto the flat side of one whoopie, top with another , and now you've got yourself an A&W Whoopie Pie! Recipe should create two dozen whoopie pies.
